The British Council organises its work into three SBUs: English, Education and Arts but in the Gulf its English work is the largest and most visible activity.

Our English services for the public include fee-based products such as English language courses in our teaching centres and Exams. We also offer free online learning. Our B2B/B2G work with Ministries of Education, universities, schools and companies includes online courses, teacher training, language tests and the promotion of the UK’s thought leadership in English language teaching and learning through research.

We work closely to integrate our offer across the Arts and Education SBUs where there is alignment with the needs of the customers and clients of our English services. This is particularly the case in our Education work with Ministries of Education, schools and universities as well as the promotion of study in the UK through our SIEM (Services for International Education Marketing) Education fairs and Study tours.
