Our Cultural Network has launched in 2012 following the "Out of Britain" exhibition we had in September 2012.
The Landscapes Expanded Programme was designed by our local art team to include a month-long artist residency led by Alia Farid Abdal for 12 artists; it also included artist talks, film screening and an extensive educational program for schools and British Council teaching centre students.
The residency resulted in "Out of Kuwait" exhibition which was displayed at the Kuwait Museum of Modern Art in Collaboration with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters in Kuwait. This exhibition was also displayed at Edge of Arabia in London in November 2013. Our partners in this project are the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) in Kuwait, Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) and the Royal College of Art in London.
Members come from different art and academic disciplines. The aim of the network is to engage further with the cultural scene in Kuwait, share knowledge and information, promote cultural events and professional development of its members.
Culture and art enthusiasts, artists, musicians, festival promoters, performers, academics, etc. are more than welcome to join our network by sending us a request at Mais Montazar.
Monthly meetings: to share ideas, events and discuss possible cultural projects.
Grants: a previous grant was offered for two members to attend Art Dubai in March 2013.
Festivals and art events: grants will be offered on a call for expression of interest basis for members! Grants are designed to offer members exposure to the regional and international cultural scenes, professional development and support for art activities across different platforms (visual arts, theatre, music, film, etc.). Residencies and placements within art organisations fall under this grant scheme.
Showcase: Design your event! Members will be supported by British Council to design a showcase on a yearly basis.
