The second Cybersecurity Education and Research Conference (CERC) is a joint venture organized by the UK Government in collaboration with Kuwait’s Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), the Kuwait College of Science & Technology (KCST), Kuwait University (KU) and The British Embassy. The conference will take place virtually using an online conferencing platform on 24-25 November 2020.
CERC2020 strives to maintain the important mission on which it was established: to promote research and academic collaboration between UK and Kuwait in the field of cybersecurity as well as emphasise on the significance of developing novel cybersecurity solutions in various areas of government, industry, and society.The confernece will bring together official, academic and commercial sectors in the field of Cyber Security Research and Education from Kuwait and the UK to share their research and insight on the above issues.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the theme of CERC2020 will be centred around the key new challenges and open problems in the area cybersecurity witnessed during the pandemic. Special focus will be given to the following topics:
- New Challenges in Healthcare Systems
- The Effect on Educational Systems
- The Effect on Government Sectors
- Financial, Banking and Commercial Sectors
- The Rise of Social Engineering

CITRA, the lead on cyber engagement in Kuwait, supports this event at a Kuwaiti Government level, with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) acting as the body representing UK Government, and the UK Science and Innovation Network, with the support of the British Embassy and British Council in Kuwait. Additionally, KCST and KU are supporting the event in terms of academic background and programme management.
CERC2020 supports the Kuwait-UK Memorandum of Understanding on Cyber Security signed in 2018, which points to (amongst other areas) engagement in both education and research. CERC2020 is supported by the UK Government, and through the UK Science and Innovation Network in the Gulf will fund participation from leading UK research and Government institutions to attend the event.
